Introducing Dr Tony Patiniotis, Laparoscopic & Obesity Surgeon

Dr Tony Patiniotis is passionate about helping people lose weight, regain their health and reclaim their quality of life.

Tony was born, raised and educated in Tasmania and now operates exclusively through the Hobart Private Hospital. He practices General Surgery, as well as specialising in a wide range of laparoscopic procedures including:

  • Gastric banding surgery
  • Hernia repair
  • Anti-reflux surgery
  • Gall bladder surgery
  • Colorectal surgery
  • Endoscopy (both colonoscopy and gastroscopy)

To date, Tony has performed over 1,900 lap-band or gastric banding procedures.

On a personal note, Tony is married to Jacqui and they have three boys Lucien, Julius and Raphael. Tony is a keen soccer player (and a retired rugby player). He loves to scuba dive, renovate and he is a former army reservist surgeon who has served in New Guinea and East Timor.

  • 2002 - 2003: Colorectal Surgeon Monash, General surgeon Sandringham 
  • 2002: Returned to Melbourne
  • 2000 - 2002: Private Practice Burnie, North-west Tasmania

  • 1999: Fellow in Upper GI and colorectal Monash University
  • 1998: Completed AST 
  • Victorian Training Programme through Monash University
  • 1996: Advanced Surgical Training
